Globally, it was a bit of a mess. The year that Bush and Blair launched their dubious war on Iraq. The year of the record-breaking heatwave that killed thousands across Europe.
Our first year of travelling together, beginning with Will’s inaugural trip to the state of Minnesota in the US, where he met Matt’s family for the first time. It also included a road trip to Chicago. In September, Will introduced Matt to his family’s tradition of holidaying on the beautiful Greek island of Kefalonia. There they celebrated Will’s Dad’s 50th birthday.
Shortly afterwards, Matt introduced Will to his own tradition of making an annual pilgrimage to Amsterdam. While in that neck of the woods, we also took in Brussels and Bruges in neighbouring Belgium.
The year was capped off with Matt serendipitously getting his hands on tickets to see Bowie in concert at Wembley in November – the only time we got to see him live.
