Minneapolis, MN
Matt’s place of birth. He’s seen most of the States over the years, and at various times has also lived in Chicago, Philadelphia, New York and San Francisco.
Olney, Bucks
Will’s place of birth. He has seen lots of England and been to Wales, but has yet to set foot in Ireland or Scotland.
France
Will’s family often came camping to the south-west when he was a kid. They finally moved out to the Dordogne at the end of the 80s. Will’s also seen of the north.
Winnipeg
Matt’s one foray into Canada was in 1985, to the city of Winnipeg for a youth conclave.
Israel
In 1986, Matt went on a 6-week summer tour of the country. He returned 1990 for a summer internship at the Tel Aaviv stock exchange.
UK
Matt’first trip to the UK was in 1989 for Spring Break. He visited London and Bath. He came back to London in 1997 for his year of travel. In 1999, a big UK trip took in London, Edinburgh, Inverness, Perth, Glasgow, Belfast, Galway, Dublin and Cardiff.

In the mi 90s, Matt worked as a trader in the US. In 1994, he had a business trip to Hong Kong and to Tokyo

Amsterdam
For the first of what was to be many, many repeats, Matt discovered the delights of Amsterdam as part of a major European holiday in 1994. He returned in 1995 on another big European trip.
France
For his big 1994 European tour, Matt visited various capital cities, including Paris.
Switzerland
For his big 1994 European tour, Matt visited various capital cities, including Geneva. He returned in 1995 to see Zurich and Lugano.
Italy
His 1994 Europe trip took in the Italian cities of Florence, Rome and Venice. The following year he also saw Milan.
France
As part of his 1997 year of travel, Matt visited the border town of Strasbourg en route to central and eastern Europe. He also saw Paris.
Portugal
As part of his 1997 year of travel, Matt took in the captial city of Lisbon and nearby Sintra.
Denmark
For the Nordic portion of his 1997 year of travel, Matt visited Coppenhagen.
Norway
For the Nordic portion of his 1997 year of travel, Matt visited Oslo and the southern city of Bergen. He then went up to the Arctic circle to see the Lofoten Islands.
Sweden
Matt’s big 1997 trip took in the city of Stockholm.
Finland
Still on the big 1997 year of travel, Matt visited the city of Helsinki.
Russia
From Finland, Matt crossed over into Russia to see St. Petersberg.
Lithuania
Continuing with his 1997 year of travel, Matt saw Vilinus, the capital.
Poland
In addition to Warsaw, Matt also took in the city of Kraków during his 97 year of travel.
Germany
For his 1997 year of travel, Matt stayed at the cities of Berlin, Frankfurt and Cologne.
Spain
Matt spent some time in Spain on his 1997 trip, taking in Barcelona, Madrid, Seville, Grenada, Malaga, and Gibraltar.
Morocco
For Matt’s sole visit to the African mainland, he saw the cities of Tangiers and Fez.
Thailand
Matt’s 1997 year of travel also took in Asia, with a stop-over in Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Ko Samui.
Austrlia
While in that neck of the woods on his 1997 trip, Matt visited Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Cairns.
New Zealand
Another leg of his 1997 trip, Matt saw the cities of Aukland, Wellington, Napier and Christchurch, as well as must of the the South Island.
Gran Canaria
On an early 00s trip that just pre-dated Will, Matt visited the island of Gran Canaria.
Jamaica
It was early January 2000 and Matt and some friends impetuously booked a last-minute flight to Jamaica to find some winter sun, staying in the town of Negril.
Mexico
Back in 1985, Matt took a day-trip to the touristy town of Tijuana just over the border.
New Zealand
Back in 2001, Will’s family had a three-week trip to New Zealand that took in all the major cities and sights of both islands. It was amazing.
Spain
When Will’s family lived in France, they often took their holidays in Spain, venturing as far down as Segovia.
Germany
Will’s history class organised a trip to Germany back in the early 90s. WIth Berlin as a base, they visited several concentration camps. It was gruelling.
The Algave
The Roberts family had a lovely week disovering the Algarve region back when Will was about 10.
Kefalonia
Will’s family started visiting Kefalonia in the mid 90s – he’s lost count of how many times he’s been at this point.
Mindelo
We visited the town of Mindelo, on the isand of Sao Vicente, Cape Verde in March 2017 for our honeymoon. A very friendly place, but the wind never stops blowing.
Iceland
We had a cold but enjoyable 24 hour stopover en route to the US in June 2017. A really otherworldly country made all the more surreal by the fact that it doesn’t get dark at night.
Barbados
We visited in 2009 and loved it: the people are really friendly and the island itself oozes lush, tropical beauty.
Moscow
We went in 2005 to visit our friends Steve and Ian, who had a luxury appartment in the centre of town. We learnt that the Russians are not the happiest, or indeed, most polite folk.
Hong Kong
We had a week in Asia in 2011 when we went out to visit Matt’s good friends Paul and Karmen in Hong Kong.
Cebu
As part of our 2011 Asia trip, we had the pleasure of attending Paul and Karmen’s wedding that took place in the Philippines.
West Coast Tour (1)
We had an amazing 3-week trip in 2005 exploring the west coast and then heading inland. We started with a few days in San Francisco, then drove down the Big Sur coastline….

…from there, we headed into Nevada for a few nights to experience the madness of Las Vegas…

…next up was Arizona where we saw the breathtaking Grand Canyon…

…our next stop was Utah where we saw Arches National Park…

…and we finished off in Colorado visiting Matt’s uncle and aunt. It was the trip of a lifetime.
Portugal
Our first trip together was in 2017 when we had a stop-over in Lisbon en route to Cape Verde. We enjoyed it so much that we returned in 2024 to see more of the country.
Spain
We have made a few trips to Spain together. We went to see our friends Andrew and Tony in Valencia in 2007. We also took in the madness of the Sitges carnival in 2010.
Chicago
Will’s first trip to the US was in 2003, to Minnesota where he met Matt’s family. While we were there, we drove down to Chicago to visit Gerald.
East Coast Tour (1)
As a follow-up to our west coast trip, we returned to the US in 2007, this time to explore New England. We started in New York…

…Next up was a stay in Maryland with Matt’s aunt. While we were there, we also visited Washington DC….

… We went on to Boston next, then up the coast to Kennebunkport, Maine. A year later, we returned to the area for a stay in Boston then Province Town.
Denmark
We had a very enjoyable weekend exploring Coppenhagen along with Matt’s dad in 2009.
Engelberg
Switzerland is a staggeringly beautiful country that we visited along with Suzy, Steve and two of the girls in 2022.
Italy
We’ve seen quite a bit of Italy together over the years, and loved everything apart from the drivers who are all nuts.
Corsica
It looks like a Greek island, but they speak French. We fell in love after our first trip in 2023 so had to go back again for more in 2025.
Gran Canaria
In search of some winter sun, we took a trip to the Canary Islands in March 2004 with Big D, Gavin and Johan.
