Curry, Crepes and Work

There are a few things happening around here, but not many so here goes.

I’ve been busy with work the past week. I am now the developer and web host for the property sites. It’s mainly one site, with another one that shares the same data. The old developer started work on a new version, but it’s buggy and built in a system that I haven’t used. I transferred the sites over the course of last week and put the changes live on Saturday. Next, I must review the state of the sites and recommend a course of action: either fix the old developer’s version, or write my own. I would definitely prefer the latter and will try to steer things in that direction.

I’ve also had some work for Media Trust and doing a bit of work for ARBC. In addition, I’m asked to weigh-in on the design of my next big project so all told, it’s been a fairly busy week. Will has also heard back from his author/teacher client and the is now progressing a bit too.

We continue to rehearse for our upcoming gig. Most days, we sound ok but now and again, we have very bad days, like today. I’m now getting comfortable with the last song we chose, London Calling, a difficult one in many respects. I think we’re both cautiously confident, but glad we still have nearly 2 weeks to rehearse.

The title of today’s post is explained by our two social events of the week. On Saturday, we were invited out by Ute and John, friends of Bryan and Carol’s who came along too. The Auberge St George, in their local town of St Jory de Chalais, had a curry night on Saturday. The owners are an English couple who have worked in France for many years. He cooks and she is front of house. They do the usual 3-course lunch but occasionally have a theme night. They took it over last year, and we’ve been meaning to go ever since.

The meal on Saturday was very good, although not quite as good as our monthly curry from Sue. The starters were white fish in a spiced batter, onion baji and a samosa, served with salad. The main was chicken tikka with rice and desert was three small balls of chocolate mousse with crunchy wafers in between. Also in attendance was Thomas, a local builder who is German (like Ute) and recently divorced. We had met a few times before, and it was good to see him again, along with our hosts.

On Sunday, we were invited around to Odille and Daniel’s, our neighbours just down the road across from Lucien and Mauricette. It is soon pancake day, an Easter-related holiday, so they had us around for crepes. In addition to L & M, we were joined by Martine and Joel, who live just over the road. The crepes were served with homemade jam, supplied by Mauricette, along with chestnut paste and Cointreau. Of course, we had to try one crepe with each of the toppings and then had fruit salad. This was served with cider from Normandie. We ended up staying there for a few hours and it was a pleasant way to end the weekend.

And that brings us up to date.
