Happy 98th Birthday to Grammy!

As the title says, it’s Grammy’s 98th birthday today. The whole family, except me, went to Mpls to celebrate. I spoke to her today and she had a nice weekend, despite the cold weather. At least they got to hold all the planned events this year, unlike last year when many were cancelled due to snow.

It’s been another quiet week. Will got his new camera, which he likes very much. It’s a smaller version of his previous one, and only cost £100 or so. His laptop continues to behave, so it’s bought itself a reprieve for now.

We got our haircut by a professional for the first time in France. We both decided to grow out the front a bit, and it had gotten very long (for us). We tried to walk-in on Thurs, but she couldn’t do us then, so we returned the next morning. She is a very friendly, chatty woman, and did both our hair in under 20 minutes. Overall, it was a favourable experience, and I’m pretty sure we’ll be going back.

We had heard that there were some burglaries in St Pardoux, and the hairdresser confirmed it. Apparently, they broke into a number of shops, including Will’s driving instructor, but got very little money. They also did a house somewhere in the environs of Milhac. We only know it was a holiday home, but don’t know exactly where. Even we’re not immune to crime out here in the sticks.

Work continues to be about the same, although it’s quieted down a bit for Will as he waits for clients to come back to him. I put together a rough proposal for a big project. It’s Lewis, the American guy from the choir and his wife, who would like to start an on-line language school. They are both ESL teachers, and have used systems like this before. They would need to find financing, and are having some meetings this week. I don’t give it big chance of coming through, so I shall continue to look for work in the meantime.

I did a bit of gardening, and trimmed the wisteria, grape and rose vines. I also pruned the hydrangea earlier in the week. The weather has been stormy today, but generally still very mild. We were out chopping wood in a mini-gale earlier today. Everyone around us is sick with either the cold or flu. We’ve had lots of contact with sick people, but miraculously, have managed to avoid the plague so far.

We had a quiet weekend, and we stayed in and watched films both nights. We’re having a crowd over on Friday to celebrate Will’s birthday, and hopefully going out for lunch on Sunday too. And that wraps up another winter’s entry.
