A Big Gay (Good) Friday

Easter weekend is wrapping up around here today, although we’ve not done much to celebrate. In fact, we both worked today. However, we did kick off the weekend in style with a festive night around Lee & Richards, along with six other gays.

The boys had some friends down from the UK, a married couple and a friend of theirs who came down in their caravan. Richard dated one of the guys nearly twenty years ago, so they’re old friends. Also there were some locals, a couple who live in Villebois and a friend of Lee’s who lives in the area. So we were ten gays round the table that night, almost certainly the largest such gathering since moving here. In a small world story, one of the guys from the local couple is cousins with a friend of ours from London. We remember her referring to a gay cousin that lives near us, so now we’ve met him.

Richard made a quiche to start, then chicken stroganoff, followed by cheese. Lee made dessert which was a chocolate tart. It was all very tasty, and as usual, accompanied by a lot of wine. We stayed up chatting well into the evening. We’d all heard of each other, but not met before. I’m not sure who left when, but I do remember that Lee and I were the last two standing. We were a bit worse for wear the next morning, but a cooked breakfast fixed us up. Will and I said our goodbyes in the afternoon, then headed home to nurse our hangovers. We watched some films and had supermarket pizza before calling it an early night.

Sunday was a bit more lively, although not much. My main activity was to go down to the new neighbours for a jam session. It was with Gilles, the neighbour who plays keyboard, and Lewis, our new American friend on the guitar. We first had coffee with Myriam and she and Gilles explained their side of the path saga. In brief, they were having an outdoor fire when they first arrived, burning a lot of the junk that remained in and out of the house. It was out of season, so Lucien called the mairie to report them. They found it galling that he was coming onto their property to spy on them/dob them in, so they closed the path. Regardless of what happened, the two couples don’t have a lot in common so probably wouldn’t have been friends anyway.

While I was down there, the Beaufils stopped by to say hello, which was a relief. I wasn’t sure if we were in their bad books for socialising with the enemy, but apparently not. They even asked if we wanted a veggie plot this year, so apparently there’s no issue there either. Will declined his offer, but I may go see if I can borrow his rotovator and just do a quarter of our current plot.

Work is still busy, mainly for Will but not too bad for me either. He is churning through his list of sites, and has polished off a few last week. I’ve still been doing research for my project, but have had little things to do on others at the same time. We’ll be starting our big project in the coming days, as soon as Will finishes his backlog.

The cats are all better, as am I. I did end up being snotty for a few days, but the cold passed quickly. The weather continued to be bad up until yesterday, but we’re having a week of sun with temps up towards 20 by the of the week. I have already mowed the lawn once, but I did the front more than a week ago and it already needs another go. It took me two hours to do the back, nearly twice as long as usual due to the mole hills and length of the grass. Not much else to report, so I’ll say good night.
