Rain, Music and Work

Up until today, we’ve had lousy weather. It’s been stormy, wet and grey, with rare patches of sun. The temps have been in the teens, so at least it’s not been too cold. As a result, the grass has shot up during the last two weeks since I last mowed it. It’s been sunny today, so I took advantage and tamed the jungle, at least a bit. Our wood supplies are holding up, but we’ve got to cut more tomorrow. The chainsaw hasn’t been working that well since the last time Lucien sharpened it, so we asked him to have a look. He gave it a good sharpening, so we’ll see if that doesn’t help.

On the music front, we had our usual weekly rehearsals. The one with the ladies went fairly well, and we realised that we have less than eight weeks before the show. We’ll probably add in a few extra rehearsals as the date draws closer. The Friday rehearsal was ok. Now that we’re done with the songs for the dance, we’ve started working on a few new songs. Actually, Alain told us as we were leaving that we need to re-record one of the songs since the dancers are doing a shorter version. This wasn’t pleasing, considering all the time Will has put into learning the solo, which has now been cut. He offered to edit the mp3 instead of recording another version, but Alain didn’t respond. We’re not going to go on Friday, both to have a break, but also to show our displeasure.

We’re both busy with work. Will has a few new sites on the go, including the one for my Uncle Bud, who is generally pleased with the progress. I’ve got to import the data from his old site before Will can continue, and I will do so in the next few days. I’m working on a site redesign for Abby, and it’s coming along now. I’ve got a few other bits and pieces in the pipeline, but after that, I’ll have to start looking for more project work again. I went around to the neighbours on Tuesday, Martine and Joel who just got a new laptop, which I helped set up. That doesn’t really count as work, although they did send me home with a bottle of wine.

We had one social event, when William and Clare came to dinner on Saturday night. It had been awhile since we’d seen them, and they’re both doing well. He can be a bit trying at times, but was actually very pleasant company that evening. They are thinking of changing the focus of their business from wholesaling to shops, to pure retail. They’ve started selling on Amazon, and that’s starting to take off. For dinner, we started with roasted pepper and artichoke antipasto, followed by turkey scallopini with mashed potatoes and roasted broccoli. I made strawberry tarte for dessert since they are in season. They left around midnight, and we stayed up and watched a film.

There’s really not much else to report. It’s the second week of school holidays, so I don’t have choir, and we have a few social engagements. I will leave those for Will to blog about next week.
