Some Happy News

We’ve decided to get married. I guess you could say we’re engaged, but no one proposed. It’s mainly for legal and not romantic reasons, but there will be a party nonetheless. The ceremony (such as it is) will be at the Mairie on 21 Sep, followed by a party the next day. That’s all that’s certain for now, so more details will be forthcoming.

It’s been a week and a half since we stopped smoking. So far, it’s going as well as can be expected. We both feel better and Will is setting new records each workout. I went swimming once and mainly did backstroke, as the physio advised. I mentioned this at the last session and she said it’s fine to mix it up so I’ll aim to do half and half back / crawl. I’m going to have new exercises to do after my physio ends in a few weeks. It’s to strengthen my back muscles which should help with my terrible posture. So far, there’s not much difference but it’s only been a few weeks.

Work continues to be busy. Will is nearly done with one site and has started on another. I’ve still got my big project for Abby, and am working on a second one for her in the meantime. I’ve had a number of smaller bits for other clients, but that’s starting to dry up. I’m meant to start a medium size project next week too. We’re both on track to have record quarters, depending on whether we get paid before the end of the month. Regardless, it’s been full on since the start of the year.

We did very little at the weekend. This is partially because we’re not yet ready to socialise with smokers. The main event was on Saturday when we joined an anti-wind farm march in Nontron. It was organised by VIAPL, our association and included 40 other associations from the surrounding area. We were over 600 people in all. We marched through town, then listened to some very good speeches before marching back to where we started. There was a buffet at the end but we skipped it and headed home.

The weather was sunny and clear for the march, but turned windy and wet later that day. It cleared up nicely yesterday and was sunny with temps around 18C. I finished trimming the hydrangias and other plants in the front and Will tended to the house plants. On the subject of gardening, we received our special seeds in the post last week. These are guaranteed females of a decent strain. They are germinating as we speak and hopefully, most of them will sprout. Lucien came by and turned over the veggie plot. It needs one more go and then it will be ready.
