We’ve had lovely weather for the past week, with highs of 25C yesterday. All the trees are in bloom, as is the wisteria which is giving off a lovely odour. I had to mow the lawn again last week and will need to do so again shortly.
We received a last minute invite to a bbq at Claude & Claudine’s. They live just up the road from us and are active in VIAPL (anti-wind farm group). There were around 20 people, all of whom are active in the group. This was to say thank you for helping to organise the recent march, amongst other things. We only knew a few people, but made some new friends and in general, had a lovely time.
We arrived around noon and started on the Ricard for the aperitif. We sat down a while later and had wine with salads that people had brought (I did my bbq standard of green beans and goats cheese). The bbq itself was a couple types of sausages, all washed down with more wine. Later on, Marie, the daughter of the hosts played her flute, and was accompanied by a guitarist for a few numbers. He gives lessons at Musique en Herbe and has nothing nice to say about the group or its leader. He agreed to give Will some pointers so he will be scheduling a lesson soon.
After that, we had dessert and champagne, and then hung out until nearly 7pm. We were feeling nicely tipsy when we got home so decided to have a few more cocktails while listening to music on our fancy new system. We weren’t hungry for dinner so that helps explain why neither of us were feeling that great today. We both did some work, despite the mild hang over.
Our other social event of the week was curry night here on Friday. Along with M&M and Philippe, we were joined by Gael & Corrine who we hadn’t seen a long time. He had a bad case of gout and he’s only now getting over it after many months. They were both on good form and are making progress on their place. They are moving in at the end of the month, so I guess it’s liveable, but only just. This mean Philippe’s place will be available to host guests at the wedding which is helpful.
Manu made a load of onion bhajis for the entree, which we washed down with the giant bottle of champagne that E&O brought the other night. A few others had ordered starters so we were already nicely full by the time we sat down. The curry itself was just ok – both Will and I are generally disappointed these days. I made a no-bake strawberry cheesecake for dessert and it was fairly good. It was the first night we socialised with smokers, and we each had a few puffs from a joint. We also bummed a roll-up from someone at the bbq yesterday. I don’t think either of us enjoyed it, and it hasn’t made me want to run out and buy tobacco, so it was a successful test.
Will saw our new doctor during the week since he’s had one of his usual ear/tooth/throat episodes. The doctor thinks it’s lymph node related, so Will got jaw x-rays and will be seeing an ENT specialist in Perigueux in a few weeks. I had my last physio session on Friday. I’ve got a whole bunch of exercises to do, so now I just need to start doing them.
Work has been steady and Will launched a couple of new sites last week. I’m nearly finished with a site rebuild and have started a new project this week. Will has another site / logo to create for a new client that he mentioned in his last post. It will probably be another few sites down the road so hopefully, they are easy to work with. It’s a group of five people which makes things more complicated.
I’m off to enjoy the sunshine.
