Late again, I know but here’s the roundup. We’ve both had quite a bit of work on recently, as well as lots of new enquiries coming in too. This is a good thing, but when each new enquiry requires hours of unpaid work providing a quote, it’s a pain too. I’m pleased to report that my recent difficult client is now on board with my new design, so that’s progressing nicely again.
On Tuesday, Milhac Loisirs had its AGM, and it was an unusually productive one. Our friend Corinne from the village has stepped up and is taking the post of secretary on the board, as well as joining the choir group. This will take a lot of the burden off of Matt, who’s recently had lots to do and organise for them, on top of his work.
Speaking of local associations, our other big one, VIAPL (the anti-wind farm group) has recently undergone a coup d’état. The president and founder has just been deposed. Apparently he was a very divisive and aggressive man who had given the association a bad image and had upset a lot of local councillors. So our friends Marie & Christian, both already heavily involved in the organisation, forced him out and have briefly assumed control until the new president is appointed. They’re positive about it, but are just now starting to appreciate how much work an association can be.
In other news, we had a rude awakening his week. It was at 5am on wednesday when major ruckus in the lounge got us both up to investigate. It was Smeagol and an intruder cat having a fight in the lounge. The other cat had obviously snuck in the cat flap to help itself to some food. It’s known to Lucien and has several times “Harry Houdini’d” its way out of traps he’s set for it. It’s not been back since, but Smoo took quite a beating. He’s since bounced back of course. Not wanting to be outdone, Louis woke us at the same time the following morning with multiple mice offerings.
Jean, dad’s plumber/electrician started work on Thursday and the house now has a temporary electrical supply. He’d asked me to order him a load of equipment, which I did and left at the house. He rang on Friday afternoon to ask why I’d ordered two of everything, which was news to me. It transpired he’d given me 2 lists so I could choose which website to order from, but I thought he needed the lot, so I ordered it all. Luckily we can return the duplicate order, but we’ll have to pay for the courier.
We didn’t do any socialising over the weekend, but we did have a band practise with Christian on Sunday afternoon. He brought over his mixing table so that we could better regulate our sound in our tiny practise room, and we ended up spending a good chunk of the time messing around with that. Since his elevation to acting President of VIAPL, he’s been really busy in any event and hadn’t been able to practise. Still, we’re all good to go for this weekend’s practise now.
Dad got here yesterday for another week of working on the house. He took his now-regular overnight ferry route and will be here for a week or so sorting out the roof. But that will be for next week’s entry. Which, by the way will be our 8th year anniversary of moving to France, if you can believe it! Until then.
