A Bit of a Dreary Week

We’ve just had a rather unpleasant week as far as the weather goes, but its looks like we’re over the worst of it now. Today was certainly a vast improvement with some long overdue sunshine. I’m sure the vegetation was grateful: I think it was our first proper rainfall of the year, but I am glad it’s stopped.

Work is still utterly dead for me. I’m not too worried as I’m sure it will pick up soon. It’s more that its a bit boring and frustrating, but I’m occupying myself with little odd jobs around the house. I did the annual hedge trimming today. Now that Lucien has cut down the one at the end of the house, the whole lot can be done in one day, which is a massive bonus.

Matt has more on than me but isn’t super busy either, so he’s had time to mow, and even make it to the swimming pool one afternoon. He also wired up a wifi repeater box we ordered recently. This is positioned so that we now get a solid wifi connection out on our terrace. What with our new garden furniture too, I really am itching for the warm weather to arrive so we can start taking advantage of it all. Roll on BBQ season!

We had a week-day dinner invite on Thursday, to Manu & Mathilde’s. We were very pleased to hear from them as we’d not seen them for some weeks. Also in attendance were Paul & Nathalie. We had a leisurely aperitif course then sat down to a delicious meal of nettle soup to start – a first for us both – followed by a mexican chicken dish. Mathilde made a tarte tatin for dessert. We didn’t stay too late but did watch a little TV when we got in.

Our next activity was dinner at Ridgit’s along with Mum, Dad and Françoise. The folks came to ours first and we squeezed in a quick drink then set off, collecting Françoise en route. It was the first time the folks had seen their place, so they got the tour and met their excitable dog Vinnie. Ridigt are well, but had some sad news recently : a good friend of theirs just died of cancer. They were in pretty good spirits all the same.

We started on nibbles and then moved on to a meal of home-made refried bean burritos and home-made chips, made by Rich and Bridget respectively, along with a salad. This was capped off with a strawberry cheesecake, all delicious. We left on the early side and the folks dropped us back at ours whereupon we both fell asleep in front a film then went to bed.

Sunday was to be a band practise day, but this was cancelled at the last minute so that’s about all the news I have to report from Mazeroux. Mum & Dad have some news though: their first visitors have officially booked! This will be Dave, Amy and of course, Elvie, who arrive on the 5th of June for five days. We’re very much looking forward to seeing them. My aunt Tracey has also booked to come out in June along with Nan, and as it happens, they will be here at the same time as Jan. And just in time for our concert too!

Right, that’s all I have for you. Au revoir.
