I must apologise in advance, for being late with my entry and also, making it a very short one. There’s not much to report, and I’m actually fairly busy with work. Mainly, this is finishing up the new site for ARBC, which Will and I have been working on since last week. It’s nearly there now, but of course, I’ve hit a few snags so it’s taking time to get right.
Also on the work front, Will has been busy designing some new sites. One is for Sylvie, who along with her husband, runs a factory where they make metal parts for machines. He did the design and first reports are that they’re happy with it. He also did the design for an ecommerce site, and he’s waiting to hear back. I’ve got lots of little things on the back burner for new and existing clients. I also have to do some quotes for new work for Abby, and I’ve also been asked to redo the site for Media Trust. They are a nightmare client, and I don’t have any requirements from them yet, so I’m not sure whether or not I want the business. However, beggars can’t be choosers, so I’m trying to be positive about it.
Not much happened last week. We had our lesson with Mathias on Wed. He is definitely making progress, which is gratifying. However, we don’t really know what we’re doing, so can’t take much credit. We’re thinking about calling it quits after the next few lessons. I’ve also had my usual weekly activities of choir and conversation.
On Friday, we had the annual “galette du roi”, a French new year’s tradition. This was for Milhac Loisir, and it was in the village meeting room. I tended bar, which was mainly the leftover cider from the Soiree Britanique. The galette is a round sponge cake, with a token hidden inside. Whoever finds it is the “king” and gets to choose a queen, although thankfully, we didn’t do that this time. It was sparsely attended, possibly because of the weather.
Later that night, we went to rehearsal at Musique en Herbe. We’re having trouble finding suitable songs for our 70’s night. The event is a dance, which to me says disco. However, this isn’t the sort of music MeH usually play, and as we’re discovering, many songs would be quite difficult. They also have another concert already scheduled for June, and the songs will be completely different. Even though four months sounds like a lot of time, it works out to 16 rehearsals, which is not enough time to learn 40-50 songs. So yesterday, I suggested to Josiane that we either scrap the event, or just get a DJ and she was open to the idea. So now, we just need to get Alain to agree, and we’re off the hook.
Our only social event was brunch on Sunday at Olivier and Emmanuel’s, our new friends who live in the Charante. The latter is the cook, and he did a lovely meal including a tarte, an omelette, plus cheese, salad, and smoked duck breast. We started with mimosas, which, despite the name, is not at all French. In fact, they discovered them while brunching in the States. Also present was a friend of their’s, Fitem, who hails from Kosovo. We had a leisurely meal, and then went for a walk in the countryside near their house. It was a belter of a day, around 16C (60F), so there were loads of people out walking (and by that I mean, ten or so).
Ok, I’ve got dinner to make and it’s already late, so I’ll have to leave it there.
