Happy Easter everyone. Hope you are all swimming in chocolate. Thought I would drop in for an update whilst enjoying a delicious “vegging” out day in front of F1 and the Eastenders omnibus whilst munching on Easter eggs and other assorted Easter treats. Perfect given the extremely variable weather conditions today.
Well, having decided not to tag along with the guys to the Netherlands, I found myself instead arranging another trip back to the UK…aggghhhhh!! Who knew it would be SO soon after the last? I had to go back for an important meeting that materialised out of the blue and I was determined not to repeat the same travel arrangements as the last time. I managed to find and book a return ticket all the way to Blighty via TGV and Eurostar at the surprisingly marvellous price of less than 200 euros. Absolutely brilliant when you consider the rip-off prices of bog standard train travel within the UK, where more often than not you need to remortgage your home just to buy a season ticket!
Anyway, needless to say, a fabulous journey all the way there, a fabulous and successful time whilst I was there (London Transport aside) and for the most part, a fabulous journey all the way back. It was only a short trip, three days in total but tipping a wink in the direction of “The Secret” based on the Law of Attraction , I think the fact that I visualised an altogether more satisfying and pleasurable trip in advance did the trick.
However, since being back in what was sunny France, the Spring-like weather I left has turned into something unrecognisable. We’re literally having four seasons in one day at the moment. Just taking Oscar for a walk is tricky balancing act. To be on the safe side, I go out with lots of layers, hat, coat, gloves etc only to have to jettison most of it en route then hurriedly get it all back on again as the blip of sunlight disappears and the now black skies hurl down yet another monsoon.
If that wasn’t enough to contend with, the onset of Spring has now brought me the added problem of cows! Yes cows I said. For a long time I have always maintained a safe distance from these beasts when out walking. I know they look nice and peaceful chewing their cud or wallowing in the mud but I tell you, they are dangerous beings when they want to be. Just take a look at those horns for goodness sake. I have seen first-hand what they can do with those when disturbed so you can imagine my angst when I accidently came face to face with a whole herd!!
We had wandered along a path running alongside a cow filled field on this particular walk but I wasn’t worried as we were protected by a typical French electric wire fence to keep the animals in and humans out. As we walked past I felt the cows’ eyes boring into me and Oscar, keeping us under close guard. Thank goodness for the fence I thought. They are extremely nosy animals, cows, and unbeknownst to me, they had slowly followed us along our walk. As we disappeared into the forest we lost sight of them and I breathed a gentle sigh of relief.
However, all that was to change as en route back, OMG, the cows were practically on the path!!!!!!!! Yes the protective fence was still keeping them off the actual path but it was a narrow squeeze to get past them and I didn’t like that mad cow look I could definitely see in their eyes. They had obviously taken an abnormal interest in us and were waiting for our return…..and sure enough, there they were, skulking in the forested area using the trees as cover. I nervously edged forward along the path whilst telling the cows what lovely cows they were. I gingerly walked onwards and to my absolute horror, the cows had now progressed to trotting along trying to get up close and personal with us. I could tell from their furrowed brows they meant business. I could see a sense of urgency in their fast swaggering towards us. Aggghhhh….that was enough for me and Oscar. My walk turned into a run….with the cows now beginning to run too….and so much for my four legged protector, Oscar took off like Lassie on speed!
Eventually we reached a safe distance but could see the cows still moving in our direction; at least we were now in the clear. From now on, I shall make sure that no cow can ever get that close to us again and am working on perfecting anti cow guard product soon to be available in an Internet shop near you ![]()
