Come on Spring, We’re Ready for you Now

Given how quiet our week was, this shouldn’t take long! Probably the biggest and best news to impart is an improvement in the weather. I know I shouldn’t grumble too much given how mild winter was, but the endless grey skies were really starting to get a bit much. Well, this week has seen a big improvement, with some decent sunshine at long last. The cats are suddenly spending all day outside and are resuming their crusade of mouse killing with zeal. I’m getting the house plants used to being outside again, and Matt’s given the lawn its first mowing of the year and trimmed the Wysteria. Only one week to go and then Spring is officially here!

Quick work round-up: a new client was referred to us recently and that project’s gotten the go-ahead. He is an english butcher looking to set up shop out here in France. His business model is actually very similar to our curry service: orders are placed on the site for collection from pre-determined delivery venues. I got the design approved today and am now putting it together. We also met a new client on Wednesday: a local artist (she does oil paintings) with an existing site that she hates and wants redoing. This is at least the 2nd client to come to us having gotten a site from the designer in question. He does not do very good work, to put it mildly. It should be a good project but the client, like all true artists, doesn’t have a pot to piss in and has already told us she’ll need to pay in installments.

Work’s starting to pick up for Matt too. Via Abby in the States, he’s just picked up a decent-sized project. The client has the potential to be a big of a nightmare, and has insisted on a fixed-price, but it will be a good chunk of dosh all the same.

In other news, we gave Matthias an english lesson on Wednesday. This was his first in several weeks so we didn’t try and introduce anything new, which was just as well: despite getting over a cold, he was full of energy and it was difficult to get him to concentrate. We’ve another with him tomorrow although I’m still leaning towards calling a halt to them soon so it may be one of the last.

Not much else to say for the week so on to the weekend, for which our sole activity was rehearsal with Musique en Herbe. This was about the same as usual ie, quite painful. ‘China Girl’ got a brutal mauling that doesn’t bear describing. I think I need to insist we stop torturing it and just concentrate on easier songs. I’m sure it was only suggested for my benefit in any case. An alarming number of people were getting over colds too so I’ve spent the last few days being convinced we were bound to come down with one, but so far so good.

It was otherwise an eventless weekend. Matt did some gardening and I got in a lot of guitar playing and that about sums it up! We’ve finally started to get ready for our annual concert at Jenny’s this summer. We’ve drawn up a list of around 20 songs, half of which are repeats from last year. Of the rest, some are songs we’ve done with Musique en Herbe and the rest are new. Now we just need to rehearse the hell out of them.

Right, I think that’s all the news I have to impart, so until next time I will bid you au revoir.
