How Marvellous

It is SOOOOO very lovely out here at the moment! For about the last week and a half, it has been well above 10 degrees and mainly sunny – and today was quite possibly the nicest of all: 19.5 degrees! Woohoo! We have been out and about enjoying the glorious weather as often as possible, to which the new photos will attest.

So, where were we? Ok, yes: Iain and Fab left us on Wednesday morning to go and see more of Southern France. We sent them via the very lovely Roman town of Périgueux, then down to the fantabulously gorgeous Sarlat, capital of the Perigord Noir region. They have a few more days to spend in France and their plan is to see Toulouse, then head down to Carcassonne. It sounds very lovely – we shall have to do something similar soon.

After they left us, we got ready for our second set of visitors: Jerry, Maaike, and baby Alexia. They had a very long drive on the Tuesday: from Eastern Holland all the way down to Limôges, all in one go. That works out to around 1000 km – and took them close to 12 hours. Ugh. They had a fairly disastrous stopover in Limoges – a really overpriced hotel and (can you believe it) a bad meal, so we were very pleased to be able to put all that right by taking them out to good old Brantôme for lunch. We ate at our usual restaurant and then had a nice stroll through the quiet streets before heading back home. That evening, Sharon joined us for dinner and we all had a great time chatting away and enjoying some rather fab wine (I must do a new entry on our quest for the perfect red: it goes very nicely indeed). We also had a hilarious moment of revelation over dinner: we learned we have yet another thing in common with Sharon…. guess what it is! To celebrate, we cracked open the magic box of supplies and Sharon displayed her considerable proficiency at rolling. I think we are all going to get along just fine…

Jerry and family were up early the next morning as they had a long drive ahead of them: they were off down to Spain to see Barcelona. As we did with Iain & Fab, we sent them via Sarlat, which we hear they enjoyed immensely. That afternoon it was warm and sunny, so we jumped in the car and headed to a really pretty nearby village called St. Jean de Côle. Sharon told us about it back in May and we did go and visit, but it was raining heavily that day, so we didn’t see much of it. We made up for it this time though. The first few pics are all of St. Jean. Such a beautiful place. The other are of a walk that we did this afternoon with Sharon and Oscar. They are from a neighbouring village just up the road, called Mareuil. We are definitely going back there to see more of it – it was just stunning. Ok, that’s all for now. Tune in again soon!
