I got Da Blues

No, I haven’t at all actually – I have just learned to play a phenomenally good blues track called “Hey, Hey”. It was written by “Big Bill” Broonzy in 1957 and Eric Clapton did an excellent version of it on his Unplugged CD, for which I have the tab. I tried to learn it at some point last year but failed utterly so am chuffed to have mastered it now.

I realised I hadn’t tried to learn anything new since November/December of last year and as a result, was finding my repertoire stale and irritating, so on Friday, decided to do something about it. I leafed through the Unplugged book, remembered my initial failure to get “Hey, Hey” and thought I’d give it another go. I put in several hours a day for the next few days and today, can happily pronounce it learned. My fingers are sore and blistered but I am most pleased nonetheless.
