I’ve still got a bad back. In fact, I would say it’s worse. After visiting the docs last Monday, it was getting better thanks to the anti-inflamatories he prescribed me. But on Friday, it was incredibly sore and on Sat morning, I could barely walk. So we went back to the doctor who thinks I have a herniated disc. She prescribed oxycontin, a morphine derivative, and with that, the pain is manageable. However, it also makes me a bit spacey, so it’s made work a bit challenging. I’m going for an x-ray today, but really need to have an MRI. It will be 4 to 6 weeks before I can get one so I’m just meant to live with it in the meantime.
In addition, I picked up a cold at choir last week. Everyone there seemed to have one so it’s no surprise. I had a scratchy throat during the week that seemed to improve but last night, it came back in full force. It’s already passing quickly but I’ll soon be entering the sneezing stage which is hell on a bad back. I hope both my back and cold improve in time for our trip back to the UK next Friday.
There are a few other things to report. We had our second choir concert on Sunday, this time at Milhac. It was with the Miallet choir and we each sang some of our own songs, plus some xmas songs together. Will took me down so I could sing our solo portion. Although we did really well the week before, this week was a train wreck. Will didn’t seem to think so, but to me, it was obvious that we weren’t together through most of the songs. The public seemed to enjoy it though.
We’re not over impressed with our new water filters. We’ve been using a Brita pitcher until now and it does a fairly good job. For example, the kettle didn’t have any limescale. The all-house filter is meant to work the same but it doesn’t. I’ve complained to the company that sold them to us, but they’re not interested in doing anything about it. It’s possible that the filters will help with reducing the limescale in the hot water pipes but it will be months before we can tell.
Lucien came by yesterday and cut down the big pine tree in the front garden. I had mentioned a few months back that I was going to hire someone to do it, but he thought that was silly and offered to do it himself. So I’m gazing out the kitchen window and I have a lovely view of the field in front and their house beyond. It feels a lot lighter and more open now. He’s going to come back in the spring and trim some of the other large trees too. I have offered to pay him, but so far, he has refused. I’m sure we’ll find a way to do so, we’ll just have to be sneaky about it.
On the work front, things are moving along with my big project with Abby. In the meantime, I’ve got a client in the UK who needs some urgent work so I’ll be trying to do that in the next few days. Will finished a redesign last week and apart from that, is still waiting for content on other projects. He had a client meeting this week to do some minor changes to an existing site, and has one at the end of the week for a site in progress.
I hope we’ll have some better news next week.
