Like Will, I too plan to work on my guitar skills over the coming year. I used to play the acoustic guitar a fair bit when I lived in the States but since moving to London, I started playing less and less until it got to the point where I hardly played at all. So I need to do a lot of practicing to get back to the point where I left off years ago.
Yet relearning the acoustic guitar is actually secondary to my main goal and that is to learn the bass guitar. I bought one nearly two years ago and rarely play it. Although the mechanics of playing are similar to the guitar, it’s different enough that it feels like starting over. So I too will be playing lots of scales and practice songs to improve my technique.
All of that is a long way of saying that today I practiced the bass for an hour and later, picked up the acoustic guitar and got reacquainted with some of my old favourites. I can’t play them for shit but that’s to be expected.
