It’s been a rather crap week, with not much going on apart from work. Both of us have lots of it, and nothing terribly enjoyable. The high point was on Monday when we “flipped the switch” and changed over the ARBC site to its new owner. This means Andrew is nearly retired, and should be fairly shortly. This went mostly smoothly, although the new owner’s technical prowess is a -1 on a scale of 1 to 10. Andrew is currently in Wales helping get the new guy get up and running, and I’m sure he’s enjoying every minute of it.
Will had another meeting with the brewery people who are happy with the site so far. It’s with them to hand over content so is on the back burner, like many of his other projects. In the meantime, he has lots of tedious translation work to keep him busy. I found out that my estate agent potential has gone elsewhere, which is fine by me. They would have been very demanding and taken up way too much of my time. I’m finishing up a couple of projects for Abby and am about to embark on a new one. It’s for three women who want a directory site, like AngloInfo, which is the massive player in that market. I think they’re nuts to go up against them, but they see a niche so who am I to argue. I’m meeting with them next week to discuss the details. They are in Duras, two hours south of here, so I’ll be making a day of it.
We had one social event which was dinner at Marie and Christians on Sat night. Their daughter Faustine was there too, staying with them temporarily. She’s starting a new job in Paris in March, and is off work at the moment. We started off with aperos before moving on the carrot soup that I made. The main was like a pork pie, but with a ham in the middle, served with gravy and chestnut puree, followed by cheese and gateau de roi for dessert. We hung out listening to music, taking turns playing songs and drinking whiskey / eau de vie until midnight.
We had rehearsal on Sunday with Christian that meant mostly well, even if we were a bit hungover. I went to choir both last night and the week before. I finally spoke to John about singing the same thing as the rest of us. He wasn’t there the previous week and I realised how much more I enjoyed it, so needed to say something. The choirmaster has been making mp3s and sending them out so that people can study at home, and I asked John to please do so. I’m not sure it will help, but I feel better anyway.
The other reason for the crap week has been the weather. It’s been unseasonably warm, even for here with temps between 10 – 13 most days, and sometimes, not much cooler at night. But it’s been overcast and rainy every day and we continue to have high winds that last for days on end. Today was our first day of sun with a high of 14, so I took advantage and went for a walk. Marie and Christian came by for help with VIAPL newsletter but didn’t stay too long. And that’s all there is to report.
