The Dordogne Just Got Greener

File under: “ask and you shall receive”. Last time we were in the UK, we visited our friend Mr. Green and brought back some of his wares, which we split with Sharon and James. A month later, they have finished theirs and we were nearing the end of ours. So Sharon called up D, a friend of hers who lives in the Dordogne. He’s been here 30 years and is full of stories about the place. Anyway, he has a friend who is a horticulturalist and lives about 50K from here. So, D paid a visit to his friend and then to us and now once again, supplies have been replenished.

D ended up staying for dinner which was a combined effort between Sharon and myself. Sharon had made a roasted red pepper, garlic and tomato soup the day before which was delicious. I made what was meant to be a curried cous cous dish, but I didn’t have any, so I used quinoa instead. It’s cooked with peppers, carrots, raisins, apple, almonds and broccoli and is easy enough to knock together after a few drinks/smokes. After dinner, we played poker into the wee hours of the morning. I was the victor this time thanks to the continuation of a lucky streak I’ve had this week playing online.

Speaking of socialising, we’ve invited the local Frenchies to dinner next weekend. There are four of them living in our hamlet and we crashed their party on NYE (thanks James). We stayed there until 7ish before staggering home that night. Hopefully, it will be a bit more tame this time, although we think they’re also into poker too which could be dangerous.

It’s been a bit overcast and rainy but was up to 6 today. Meant to be sunny and cool the next few days so we’ll get in some more walks, ideally some new ones. We just booked a trip to Sitges where we’re meeting up with David C, Gavin & Graham for a long weekend. It’s the week of the gay carnival which is held the week before actual carnival. Will and I have never been and it’s our first road trip of the year. We’re driving down in one day and will probably stop off in Pau on the way back.

That’s all for now folks….
