I am on time for the first time in weeks with my blogging to bring you the weekly roundup from Mazeroux. First off a quick work update: things are steady for me. The Christian association I am working on a site for liked my design and seem very motivated. Content is already starting to drip through so it should progress nicely. For Matt it continues to be busier but not quite as frantic as it has been. He’s ploughed through a lot of smaller jobs and is a bit less stressed now.
It was otherwise a quiet week for us so I will skip on to the weekend. I normally have a guitar lesson with Christian on Friday evening but I missed it this time. Matt has been experiencing an odd sensation in his lower abdomen of late that after googling, he self-diagnosed as a hernia. Luckily, he was able to get an appointment for that evening at the docs. It was indeed a small hernia and the doc literally just pushed it back in. She’s advised him to keep an eye on it and if it does become bothersome, they can operate. So with all that excitement, I totally blanked my lesson and had to apologise profusely when Christian rang to ask where I was.
We had no plans on Friday night so stayed in and had a TV evening. On Saturday, Milhac Loisirs hosted its 4th annual Soirée Franco-Britannique. It’s the first time the event has taken place without us as the musical entertainment, which made it a far less stressful and more enjoyable experience for us both. In our stead, the association hired the same excellent DJ they’d used for an event last year. He’s an immensely entraining guy, camp as Christmas and an amazing dancer so we were thrilled he was up for another gig with us.
We got about 50 people – way less than previous years and not enough for the event to be profitable – but everyone in attendance had a ball. We’d invited various friends to come along, not expecting any of them would, so we were delighted when Benoit, Virignie and some of their young entourage from Bordeaux all rocked up around 9pm. They were already very well-oiled and proceeded to get significantly more so as the night went on. We also got both Gael and Corinne, and their new neighbours (who bought Jean-Claude and Nadine’s house in the village). They seem a lovely couple, so we look forward to getting to know them.
If B&V hadn’t have come, we’d probably have wrapped things up early but bolstered by their enthusiasm, we were able to very much get our money’s worth from the DJ. Who I can confirm, was on fine form. The last stragglers finally left around 1am, having invited us to theirs for lunch the next day. That left Matt and I to help the DJ dismantle and pack up all his equipment. We finally got home a little after 3am and crashed out until around 10 the next day.
Matt had to return to the venue that morning to help clear up while I convalesced at home. We normally have band practise on Sunday afternoons, but given the state we were in, we thought it would have been a struggle. Seeing as I’d already missed my lesson, I felt bad about blowing Christian out again, but he very understanding. He and Marie are coming over for a meal this week in any case so we told him to bring along his guitar for that.
With our afternoon freed up, we accepted our lunch invitation and went over to B&V’s. Given their highly lubricated state the previous night, we were expecting casualties but they were all fully functional and in good form. We proceeded to spend a lovely afternoon chilling out with them. Benoit put together a delicious and copious meal of roast porc, cabbage and roast potatoes. Fred the baker was there too, and had taken care of dessert: a selection of some of his delicious patisseries. We eventually left around 7pm for an early night. And that’s the story of that!
Dad arrived this afternoon. He’s here for another week of work on the house and has timed it well as it means he’ll get to experience Thanksgiving! More on that next week.
