Names Update: Our Preliminary Choices

No sooner than Will posted the preceding entry, we have agreed on two potential names for our babies. These are subject to change, of course, so don’t let that stop you from weighing in if you’ve got some names you’d like to share.

Most of our brain-storming (dare I say, name-storming) has occurred during our daily walks since it gives us something to focus on. It’s about 10C (50F) and sunny today so we took Oscar on a nice long walk and in the process, have settled on our (preliminary) first choices. Before revealing them to you, a review of the selection criteria is in order. Here is a list of characteristics (in no particular order) that the names should be:

  • Grandiose
  • French
  • Non-human
  • Matching in some way
  • Unusual

I shall keep you in suspense no longer. Henceforth, Cat A is to be called Napoleon (aka Leon) and Cat B is to be called Dionysus (aka Dion). We have yet to decide which cat is which so we’ll wait until we get them before assigning the names to them. We’re pleased that both names meet nearly all of the selection criteria. Both names are grandiose: Napoleon being an Emperor and Dionysus, the Greek god of wine; Dionysus fails on being french but Napoleon certainly is; their full names aren’t human (although the nicknames are); they match in that they’re rhyming; lastly, they are unusual.

Having them named makes us even broodier than we already were. We’ve got about 12 weeks before we collect them so it’s going to be a long wait.

For the life of me, I can’t figure out why you didn’t name at least one of them “Megatron”…
