In Romeo & Juliet, Shakespeare wrote, “that which we call a rose, by any other name, would still smell as sweet”. That may well be the case, but I would be far less happy putting one under my nose if they were called turd weeds, so I think there is something to be said for naming things with due care and attention. I am willing to accept that we may have gone overboard on this occasion though. The “short” list of names we have put together for our future puddies runs to about 75 – and counting. We are both indecisive too, so this could take some time to resolve. This is where you come in! If you’d like to weigh in on the naming, have a read through of the list below and choose your favourite two – or indeed, suggest different ones if any jump to mind. You can use the “Comments” link at the bottom of this entry to let us know your vote. We’d ideally like two names that go together in some way, but this isn’t essential.
They actually both currently have names, given them by the cattery. In one of her last emails, Veronique mentioned that, because all pedigree cats’ names must, of course(?!) begin with an F, they have been named Forrest (the whitish-ginger one) and Fjodor (the tabby). Well, pedigree naming conventions be damned: these will not do, the poor mites! The first column is of names that we like but that have no ‘brother’ name. The second column is a list of the names that go together.
